School hasn’t even started yet, but Texas Tech is already down one of their top incoming players for next season.

Nigel Bethel II has been dismissed from the school after an incident yesterday during an on-campus basketball game. Bethel and women’s basketball star Amber Battle got into a heated argument during a pickup game, and Bethel punched Battle in the face.

The school announced their decision to kick Bethel out today, saying that “Texas Tech Athletics has a zero tolerance policy on this type of behavior.” A report in the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal says that Battle will need to have surgery to repair broken bone due to Bethel's assault.

She led the team in points, rebounds, and assists last season, earning All-Big 12 Second Team honors for her performance. Bethel was an ESPN 300 recruit and the highest-rated player in the Red Raiders’ freshman class, but fortunately he will never suit up for Tech.
