The New Jersey state Assembly has passed a bill that would allow Tesla's direct sales model.

Tesla has been battling over direct sales laws in New Jersey since April, and now the electric car manufacturer is one step closer to victory. The state Assembly overwhelmingly passed a bill with a 77-0 vote that would allow Tesla to sell straight to the customer. Now it's all up to the state Senate, where the bill's prospects are unknown.

If the bill does pass in the Senate Tesla would be allowed to open four showrooms in New Jersey. While Assemblyman Tim Eustace, who sponsored the bill, is confident the Senate will be on his side, others aren't so optimistic. “I am a little concerned there will be gridlock in the Senate,” Sierra Club New Jersey Director Jeff Tittel said.

This stuff is never easy.
