The Isle of Man TT race and surrounding event is pure lunacy. When four people died in 2013, authorities looked upon that as a massive triumph of safety. The whole race is run on poorly maintained English roads with the kind of preparation that one would expect from event organizers from the 1950s, and the result is that it's really, really dangerous.
Being the guy who sits atop the heap with a lap record makes for some serious bragging rights. While it's primarily a motorcycle race, production car lap times are also counted, and Mark Higgins' lap in a previous gen Subaru WRX STI was just broken by Mark Higgins in a 2015 Subaru WRX STI.
That's how to have your record broken and still feel good about it.
