As if their 4-0 beating at the hands of the Germans wasn't enough, Portugal now finds themselves in an even bigger hole with the possible loss of a(nother) star in forward Cristiano Ronaldo. The cause of Ronaldo's misery is a "troublesome knee," after he ignored the advice of the team doctors to sit out the blowout loss to Germany. Now they're saying playing without rest (an estimated two months) may be career threatening.

@pkelso He didn't sit out of the session. Completed around 90% of it but trudged off before the end with knee iced pic.twitter.com/P50LXWbxyQ
Ronaldo's WC in balance, sat out most of training and doc quoted saying if he play so. I will end career. Great shame for him & tournament

So what does this mean to the only country that matters?

In addition to facing a Pepe-less Portuguese squad (thanks to a red card resulting from a headbutt), the U.S. faces, at best, a hobbled team on Sunday. For that reason, we see the positive of this news and refuse to shed any crocodile tears over Ronaldo's possible absence.

See you in 2018?
