This weekend’s racing at the 2014 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb ended in tragedy when 54-year-old competitor #86 Bobby Goodin crashed after completing a run to the summit.
According to reports, Goodin completed the entire race and crossed the finish line still moving at high speed, but in raising a hand to celebrate his finish, he lost control on a section of unpaved track at the peak. Goodin, riding a Triumph 675R, veered right and was launched over the edge of a precipice.
Emergency responders got to the racer, conducted CPR, and eventually flew him to a neighboring hospital, but Goodin succumbed to his injuries, marking the fifth death in Pikes Peak competition history. Our thoughts go out to his family.
