According to sources, Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch is planning on skipping the team’s mandatory minicamp next week in an effort to land a multi-year contract extension.
Lynch is entering the third year of a four-year, $30 million deal, and is due $5 million in salary this year. “Beast Mode” has rushed for over 1000 yards in each of the last three seasons, and in 2013-14 ran for 1257 yards and 14 touchdowns as the Seahawks won the Super Bowl.
However, Lynch is also 28 years old and is entering his ninth NFL season. In terms of running backs, he is entering the twilight of his career and is likely not someone to whom the Seahawks would willingly hand a multi-year contract. Minicamp begins on Tuesday, and if Lynch skips the entire thing the fines will cost him $70,000.
It seems that Lynch is making headlines lately more for what he isn’t doing, rather than his football exploits. We have to ask: Marshawn, are you really “about that action?” Because it sure doesn't seem like it right now.
