Early this morning, Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski sent out the following tweet:

Yahoo Sources: Kentucky forward Julius Randle will likely need foot surgery after NBA Draft, miss two months. http://t.co/2UHGKLqrEm

The attached report indicates that Julius Randle, who is scheduled to work out for the Boston Celtics tomorrow, needs to have a screw removed from his foot that had been inserted during his senior year in high school. The surgery would keep him out for six to eight weeks, meaning he’d be ready for training camp but not Summer League.

League executives do not, however, think that Randle’s draft stock will be affected. The surgery itself is considered minor and entirely precautionary, meaning there are no significant long-term red flags. It would, however, put him a bit behind in his development compared with other prospects.

Considering the talent and skill of the third-team All-American, though, he should still be a reasonably effective NBA player from the jump and will still almost undoubtedly be taken in the top 10.
