Follwing FIFA's ethics panel's probe into the 2022 World Cup and any bribery or corruption that may have been involved in the bid (actually, corruption was totally going on), soccer's governing body has suspended German legend Franz Beckenbauer. Beckenbauer, a World Cup champion as both a player and a coach, cannot participate in any FIFA-related activities for 90 days.
The punishment comes down after Beckenbauer refused to cooperate with FIFA's investigation in any capacity. Whether it was through written questions or an in-person interview in both German and English, Beckenbauer provided no information to FIFA despite repeated requests. He was on the board that decided to award the 2022 World Cup to Qatar.
FIFA will continue further inquests into Beckenbauer's situation.
