It's been almost a week now since Michael Sam got drafted by the St. Louis Rams during the 2014 NFL Draft and reacted to the news of being drafted by kissing his boyfriend. And yet, it's still making headlines.
Just take a look at what happened down in Dallas this week when the stars of the KTXD-TV morning show The Broadcast attempted to have a discussion about the Michael Sam kiss. It started off innocently enough with two of the show's hosts going back and forth about it. But then, host Amy Kushnir dug in her heels and was adamant about how wrong it was for ESPN to show the kiss. Her fellow host Courtney Kerr then tried to enlighten her by making a weird comparison between racism and homophobia. And all hell broke loose a few moments later when a third host Suzie Humphreys stepped in and sided with Kushnir. The discussion got really heated and ended with Kushnir getting up and walking off the set.
In a statement that was released shortly after the show aired, KTXD-TV stood behind all of their hosts, despite their beliefs, and said, "We have clearly ruffled feathers, and in doing so we hope we have advanced the dialogue on this important issue."
