Kevin Durant hasn't played very well during the first round of the 2014 NBA Playoffs. Sure, he's averaged 28 points per game against the Grizzlies. And sure, he's shown his usual flashes of brilliance at times. But he's shooting just 40 percent from the field and 72 percent from the free-throw line so far during the series, which is one of the reasons the Thunder trail Memphis 3-2 heading into Game 6 tonight. Is it really fair to call him "Mr. Unreliable," though?

Apparently, the Oklahoma City newspaper The Oklahoman thought so. Because earlier today, they turned quite a few heads with the headline that they decided to run with for a piece about Kevin Durant. It looked like this:

Cover of today's Oklahoman sports page with the following headline of Durant: "Mr. Unreliable" pic.twitter.com/GnsQCOPil8

The story itself is actually pretty decent. It highlights KD's recent struggles and points out that he has to play better in order for the Thunder to win tonight (duh). But obviously, most people didn't make it past the headline. Just check out how much most people hated the headline that The Oklahoman decided to run with today:

An Oklahoma City newspaper calls Kevin Durant "Mr. Unreliable." Looks like they forgot how to spell "MVP".
Are Oklahoma serious? Putting Kevin Durant=Mr Unreliable on front of their paper?? Hes the MVP, scoring champion and reason your in playoffs
Mr. Unreliable? I thought the Yankee fans were bad pic.twitter.com/kKzs0kKQzL
The fact that @TheOklahoman printed "Mr. Unreliable" with the potential MVP of the league is an absolute joke.
Lol The Oklahoman called KD "Mr. Unreliable"....yikes
Well, I think it's official that Mr. Unreliable will be moving to a big market in 2016.
Dudes really called one of the most consistent players of his generation “Mr. Unreliable”. NYC papers aren’t even that crazy fambs.
I feel like that "Mr Unreliable" headline is the latest photoshop job by Lil B
When Kevin Durant inevitably leaves OKC, I'll consider "Mr. Unreliable" a turning point in their relationship.
The headline should be "Mr Unreliable" and a huge picture of Scott Brooks, that's the weakness, we can see that
"Mr. Unreliable" is about as insightful as "Tragic Johnson" but a fraction as punny.
Mr. Unreliable is my third-favorite Akon song.
Dear OKC newspaper, Mr Unreliable can come play for 29 other cities, I hope he leave that dust bowl city you don't deserve him
I'd give that headline writer a Pulitzer if "Mr Unreliable" inspires Durant to prove everyone wrong tonight.
Whoever headlined the article about KD being Mr. Unreliable is an idiot
So @KDTrey5 is "Mr. Unreliable" OKC? Is he, now? Keep posting headlines like that and see where he is in 2016...@WashWizards #KD2DC
If Kevin friggin' Durant is "Mr. Unreliable", then what does that make George Hill and Roy Hibbert?
KD is the reason why okc was top seed in the west.., how you goin to call him "Mr. Unreliable"?!
Calling @KDTrey5 "Mr. Unreliable" probably just lost Memphis this series. I expect him to go off for a triple double.
"Mr. Unreliable" is the second top trending thing on Twitter right now in the United States. You did it, Oklahoman.

If The Oklahoman was looking for a crazy reaction to their "Mr. Unreliable" headline, they definitely got it. But good luck getting KD to talk to you from now, guys.

UPDATE:

The Oklahoman has now apologized for using the "Mr. Unreliable" headline.

UPDATE 2:

KD's mom has responded to the headline:

Typical Oklahoman on Kevin. UNBELIEVABLE!! KEVIN is RELIABLE!!!
