Late Saturday night, the NBA announced that they will appoint a Chief Executive Officer to oversee the management of the Los Angeles Clippers. Not only has Donald Sterling been stripped of his power, but current President Andy Roeser is also likely on his way out after he initially gave Sterling the benefit of the doubt when the audio of Sterling’s rambling racist remarks emerged.
The league has not commented on the timeline of this transition, only saying that it will happen “quickly.” Considering what a public relations nightmare this whole Sterling affair has been, it seems logical that they’ll jump on this opportunity and bring in someone with significant experience as quickly as possible.
Donald Sterling’s wife Shelly had this to say in a statement regarding the NBA’s decision:
“I spoke with Commissioner Adam Silver this week to tell him that I fully supported his recent swift and decisive action.
The NBA held its first Clippers sale-related meeting on Thursday, and they’ll be getting together again next week. A vote will likely follow soon thereafter.
