Now is probably not the time for NBA owners to be talking about the racist thoughts that they've had in the past. But at the moment, Bobcats owner Michael Jordan is making headlines for doing just that in a new book called Michael Jordan: The Life. In the book, MJ talks at length about the racism that he encountered as a teenager growing up in North Carolina and says that it turned him racist and changed the way that he looked at white people. Specifically, he talks about what happened one day when a girl at his high school directed the N-word at him.
"I threw a soda at her," he says in the book, according to the New York Post. "I was really rebelling. I considered myself a racist at the time. Basically, I was against all white people."
Fortunately, MJ's mother wouldn't let that rebellion last forever. Shortly after he was suspended for throwing a soda at the girl, his mom sat him down and talked to him about how he couldn't go through life being angry at people of other races. And he worked on adjusting his attitude towards white people after that.
