Kobe Bryant spoke out yesterday regarding the firing of Mike D’Antoni, and furthermore suggested that he should have a say in who gets to be the next man on the LA bench.
Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Kobe responded “Honestly, I don’t care” when Kimmel asked him whether he was happy to see D’Antoni go. He later offered some interesting insight into his thought process on a what makes a successful coach:
“Honestly it's not really about whether the players like the coach or not. It's really about getting results. Liking somebody and those results don't necessarily go hand-in-hand.
As for whom they hire, Kobe would like his voice to be heard. Kobe said that he was not asked for his input when the team brought in Mike Brown and D’Antoni, but said that “on the third one, I'm hoping they do.”
The Lakers will have some competition in their search, as the Knicks, Warriors, Timberwolves, and Jazz are also looking for a new head coach.
