Earlier today, USA TODAY Sports revealed why Donald Sterling was reportedly unable to stop the sale of the Clippers to former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer last night. According to a report that they released, Sterling was ruled "mentally unfit" by the Sterling Family Trust recently, which made him ineligible to take part in the sale of the team. It's why his wife Shelly Sterling was in charge of selling the Clippers to Ballmer.

TMZ Sports just did a little bit of digging around, though, and found that Sterling may be more than just "mentally unfit." He may be suffering from Alzheimer's disease—and he may have been suffering from it for the last five years. According to a report that they released this afternoon, Sterling was diagnosed with the disease by two different prominent neurologists after he underwent CT and PET scans recently. Those doctors then told his trust that he was not mentally able to conduct any business on behalf of the Clippers or the trust's other businesses.

If this does turn out to be true, it would obviously explain why Shelly Sterling was able to sell the team so quickly. Stay tuned for new developments on Sterling's condition.
