Horse racing is truly the sport where you remember second place is actually a euphemism for the first loser. Commanding Curve and Danza tried in the Kentucky Derby, but it was California Chrome who came out on top.

California Chrome (rode by jockey Victor Espinoza) isn't just a horse with a badass name. He's the 140th Kentucky Derby winner, and the first California-bred horse to win it since Decidedly in 1962. Yep. The west coast truly is running everything these days. The victory was also notable for making 77-year-old Art Sherman the oldest trainer to win the Derby.
