The UEFA Champions League Final was initially a low-scoring match, but it was a thrilling one. There were cramps, near misses, and at least one man sweating in his Dolce & Gabbana's. But it was the men in the red and white stripes who would leave in heartbreak. After being held scoreless through the majority of the match, Real Madrid caught fire at the right time to win, 4-1, in Lisbon.
Atlético Madrid led by one goal after a Diego Godín header at the 36th minute. The club gradually wore down and Real Madrid had numerous missed chances in the closing minutes. It looked like Real Madrid was about to leave scoreless, but Sergio Ramos tied it up in stoppage time with a header of his own.
The first 15 minutes of extra time were scoreless, but Real Madrid ended up being the club who broke through again. Ángel di María had his shot deflected by the goalkeeper, but Gareth Bale found just enough space to head it in to break the tie. Marcelo scored and Cristiano Ronaldo finished on a penalty to give the world another peek at his god-like body (Ronaldo has to take a shirt off with such an important goal. It's just what he does) and Real Madrid La Decima—its 10th European Cup.
