As it stands, the ultra-light Alfa Romeo 4C is the Italian exotic car for people who can't afford Italian exotics. It's mid-engined, it's made of carbon fiber, and it's rather quick. The quickness is mostly due to lightness, because the car's turbocharged I4 puts out only 237 hp. It's enough to get 2,000 lbs moving quickly, but it's not quite enough to get 2,000 lbs moving at a speed usually described as "damn fast."
Alfa Romeo and Maserati CEO Harald Wester says of the engine that "We are only at 134 horsepower per liter so there is space [for more power]." Rumors have been consistently suggesting that the hotter Alfa 4C of the future could feature a 300 hp engine, and accelerate to 60 mph in four seconds flat.
We can only hope this comes to fruition.
