Part of Detroit Electric's shtick, besides creating a badass electric sports car, is producing vehicles in the Motor City. And while the SP:01 certainly accomplishes that first goal, it's going to fail at the second. Detroit Electric announced the SP:01 will be built inHolland, only about 4,000 miles away.
The SP:01 was supposed to be begin production last fall in Plymouth, a small city west of Detroit. But the deal never worked out, and the company's been looking for a new location ever since. A spokesman told Autoblog the plan was always to build in Detroit and Europe, but there's no evidence that that's the case. The spokesman also said it'll build its next car, a sedan, in the city it's named for.
We're not holding our breath.
