Usually we bring news about cool technology that improve our automotive lives, but now we have a case of technology working against us. Thieves around the country have been gaining entry into locked cars by using "mysterious black boxes," and police still have no idea how it's happening. Cameras have caught the criminals in action, but haven't provided any insight into how the technology works.

Long Beach is just one of the cities where police have been baffled by the high-tech theft. "This is a situation where technology is working against us, making our job much more challenging at a time where resources are already strained," said Long Beach Police Chief Jim McDonnell.

The cops' advice to protecting yourself against these particular thieves isn't new: remove your valuables from your car and don't leave a spare key. Let's just hope that no one develops a black box that can start cars, too.
