Do you agree with the idea of the NFLhanding out 15-yard penalties to players who get caught using the N-word on the field? Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman doesn't. In fact, he thinks it's "almost racist" for the league to even suggest the idea—and he doesn't want the NFL to ban the N-word if they're not going to ban all curse words.
"It's an atrocious idea," he told The MMQB. "It's almost racist to me. It's weird they're targeting one specific word. Why wouldn't all curse words be banned then?"
Sherman went on to explain that the word is used so often on the football field that it's going to be damn near impossible to stop guys from using it.
"It's in the locker room and on the field at all times," he said. "I hear it almost every series out there on the field."
Sherman has a point. Multiple points actually. But the good thing is that, at this particular time, the idea to ban the N-word is still just an idea. So the NFL is likely (hopefully?) listening to players with regards to the idea of banning the N-word and other slurs and deciding what to do moving forward. We'll just have to wait and see how this controversy unfolds in the coming months.
