Mixed martial arts is a violent sport, but it doesn't make scenes like this any less shocking to see. Chris Heatherly was grappling with Chidi Njokuani on Friday when the latter delivered a brutal arm directly to the spine—an illegal move.
Heatherly's body didn't respond well at all and almost immediately slumped toward the mat. The fight was ruled a no-contest in the first round and the fallen fighter was on the mat for 10 minutes before he had to be taken away in a stretcher. The incident is painful to watch, and hopefully Heatherly can make a full recovery.
