Nothing lasts forever. It's a sad reality that Steve Smith will probably need to come to terms with this offseason. After 13 seasons with the same team, the Carolina Panthers are pursuing a trade partner for Smith, who is getting up there in age (34) and has an expensive cap number to his name ($7 million). While the idea of dealing Smith sounds good in theory for the franchise, it is likely that they won't find a suitor given those two aforementioned factors. If that's the case, Carolina may be willing to cut him and eat the $9 million cap penalty, according to Ben Volin.
Last season, Smith put up respectable numbers (745 yards on 64 receptions), so it's extremely likely that another team will sign him as a slot receiver or, at best, a No. 2 if he ends up getting cut? What team do you think would benefit most from Smith's services?
