Japanese magazines know everything.

It seems that no car company is safe from the prying eyes of the Japanese car magazines. One such publication recently leaked these pictures of what they claim to be the 2016 Nissan GT-R. Details are a bit fishy, but they’ve been right in the past, so we’ll roll with it for now.

On the surface there have been some clear styling changes, especially in the front fascia, but it’s what’s under the hood that we really care about. This source confirms that the 2016 GT-R will indeed sport a hybrid powertrain, retaining a highly updated version of the current 3.8L twin-turbo V6. The hybrid will be built by Williams and Nismo, and utilize KERS-like technology to add a claimed 250-horsepower boost to engine output. All totaled, the combined power output would peak the charts at over 800-horsepower

The magazine reports zero to 60 sprints of about 2.7 seconds, which is only slightly better than the current model, but adds an alleged top speed of over 211 miles per hour. Pricing estimates peg this next-gen GT-R between $120,000 and $150,000, a significant step up for the base model, but still much less than similarly quick supercars. Not a bad recipe.
