Tracing T-Mac's decline from one of the league's most exciting players to symbolic benchwarmer vying for a free ring is easy. It started after the 2008-09 season where his Rockets were shockingly eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. McGrady valiantly fought through shoulder and knee injuries but his squad came up short. After the season he got arthroscopic surgery on both proving it was no case of hypochondria a la Paul Pierce.

The next year, McGrady missed a ton of time due to lingering pain. After that he bounced around from New York to Detroit to Atlanta before ending up in China and then signed with the Spurs right before the season finale to be eligible for the postseason.

It's never fun to watch your favorite players struggle on the court, but it's even harder to watch them glue their asses to a folding chair on the sidelines. The Spurs tried to give him a championship by just letting him sit at the end of the bench but it ultimately didn't work out.
