Back in 1976, right in the middle of the Cold War, the CSKA Moscow hockey team took a tour of North America to play a handful of NHL teams. And for the most part, they had no trouble beating them. That is, until they took on the Philadelphia Flyers. The game was epic. And even though it was only an exhibition, players from both teams knew that there was a lot at stake.
Whether you remember what took place during that game or not, you should check out the new graphic short story, "The Check 'Heard Round the World," over here. Written by Dave Hollander and illustrated by Stephen Halker, it provides an interesting look at the game and what it meant to both sides.
