Unless you're riding in one, horse-drawn carriages are kind of the worst. They smell, they take for fucking ever, and they're inhumane. Even riding in them is an overrated, overpriced, contrived act of nostalgia. That's why we have no problem with Bill de Blasio saying he wants to ban horse-drawn carriages in New York City

"We are going to quickly and aggressively move to make horse carriages no longer a part of the landscape in New York City," de Blasio said. "They're not humane; they're not appropriate to the year 2014; it's over."

The tourists worrying about how they'll see the city while looking obnoxious and annoying the locals need not worry. The mayor's office is working with animal rights groups to develop electric-powered antique cars
