About a month ago, former NFL star Darren Sharper was arrested in Los Angeles for suspicion of rape. He was released on $200,000 bond shortly after his arrest. But it sounded like he was going to be in big trouble for his ties to two alleged sexual assaults. And now, the other shoe has fallen in his case.
Earlier today, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office announced Sharper has been charged with drugging and raping two women in two separate incidents that involved four women total. One of the incidents took place on October 30, 2013 while the other took place on January 14, 2014. In both incidents, Sharper allegedly slipped the controlled substances morphine and zolpidem (also known as Ambien) into shots that he gave to two women at nightclubs before he took them back to a hotel room. In both incidents, the women allegedly passed out a short time later. And in both incidents, Sharper allegedly sexually assaulted one of the women. So he's now been charged with two counts of rape by use of drugs, four counts of furnishing a controlled substance, and one count of possession of a controlled substance.
If convicted of the crimes in question, Sharper could face more than 30 years in prison. He's also facing the possibility of similar charges in Arizona, Nevada, and Louisiana at the moment. We'll be sure to keep you updated as Sharper's case progresses.
