When the Knicks started the season struggling, many reasonably said they were just taking some time to find that rhythm. The thing is you're not supposed to take a whole half of a season to do that. Now they're 20-32 in a season that's escaped their grasp, and they may lose the only player who's really been showing up on a nightly basis: Carmelo Anthony.

Anthony has already said he wants to opt out of his contract to try out free agency, but that doesn't mean he isn't pro-New York. In fact, he's so committed to the Knicks that he'll take a pay cut if it means making a better team. All he needs to see is a plan.

None

So in a season of dissappointment, there's one piece of good news...if you're really, really patient. It won't make that much of an immediate difference if Anthony stays and takes a pay cut because Tyson Chandler, Amar'e Stoudamire and Andrea Bargnani are on the payroll until 2015.

Pay cuts were made when LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh joined forces, but they became immediate contenders (the Heat made the finals that year). When Chandler, Stoudamire, and Bargnani comes off the books, Anthony will have to wait to see if the Knicks have a chance—a chance—to become title contenders. Anthony is loyal, but he's taking a risk if he stays.
