10 Things NFL Fans Tell Themselves When Their Teams Don't Make The Playoffs

Thirty-two teams started the NFL season wildly optimistic about their chances of hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium in February. Now, only 12 teams are left, which leaves the remaining 20 franchises and their respective fan bases wondering what went wrong. While there are a few teams that just didn't have a chance and their fans probably knew it in the back of their minds going into the season opener, most are still searching for answers. 

For the next week or so, you will likely hear a handful of rage-fueled responses everywhere from your co-workers at the water cooler to the patrons at your local bar as they try to figure out a legit reason why their favorite team isn't playing in the postseason. From New York Giants fans pinning their lack of success on an overabundance of injuries to faithful followers of the Houston Texans saying that this year was just an unlucky one, here are 10 Things NFL Fans Tell Themselves When Their Teams Don't Make The Playoffs

We just plain stink.

If you're a fan of, say, the Cleveland Browns, there comes a point in your life where you must make an important decision: do I jump ship and start my allegiance elsewhere or stick with this crapfest of a team for the long haul? If you choose the latter, which is actually the more noble choice, then you are fully prepared to face disappointment for the rest of your life. Because, even though you know whole-heartedly that your team stinks and no matter how they start, they will end up in the cellar, you still develop a drinking problem, struggle with bouts of depression that include cursing at yourself in the mirror and binging on snacks as a means of eating the pain away. It's alright though. This is the life you chose years ago and will continue to live until the day you die. Word to this guy

We're still getting used to a new regime.

We need this to happen in order to shake things up.

The team was just unlucky this year.

We're one to two players away.

The team is rebuilding.

The team dealt with a lot of injuries.

We're in a tough division.

At least we have won a Super Bowl (or multiple Super Bowls) recently.
