NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell May Get Rid of the Extra Point

Kickers may become a little more pointless.

There have been plenty of dumb rule changes made in the NFL over the last couple of years, but this one actually makes a lot of sense. In an interview with Rich Eisen of the NFL Network, commissioner Roger Goodell revealed that the league is considering a proposal that could bring an end to the extra point attempt. "The extra point is almost automatic," Goodell said. "I believe we had five missed extra points this year out of 1,200 some odd (attempts). So it's a very small fraction of the play, and you want to add excitement with every play."

According to Goodell, one idea that has been tossed around is awarding a team seven points on a touchdown and allowing teams the opportunity to score an eighth point by going about the same rules of the usual two-point conversion. But here's the catch. If a team fails to convert, they would lose a point and the team would only receive six points for the TD. Sounds, dare we say, exciting.

Is it finally time to get rid of extra point? Do you have any suggestions on how they can spice up the two-point conversion?
