Later this week, Rajon Rondo is expected to make his return to the Celtics starting lineup after sitting out the last year or so with an ACL injury. But before he does, the Celtics wanted him to get in a workout with the D-League's Maine Red Claws this week. And when they said "a workout," they meant "a workout."

Rondo was assigned to the Red Claws earlier today and went through a workout with the team. But he won't actually play in any games with the Red Claws. Because when the workout ended, Celtics general manager Danny Ainge announced that Rondo was already being recalled to the Celtics. So Rondo only ended up spending an hour or two in the D-League before making a quick return to the NBA.

"Rajon is progressing terrifically in his rehab and this is the next step," Ainge said prior to the workout. "This is a brief assignment so that Rajon can participate in a workout this afternoon with the Red Claws and he will be called back up to the Celtics upon conclusion of the workout."

"Brief" doesn't even begin to describe it. Can Rondo's time in the D-League really even be classified as time in the D-League?! Either way, it's great to hear that he'll be back in the Celtics lineup soon. Joel Anthonymust be ecstatic.
