An 83-Year-Old Driver Wreaks Havoc at a Massachusetts Gas Station (GIF)

He almost killed a gas station attendant.

You really have to feel for gas station attendants at this time of year, don't you? Between all of the cranky drivers that they have to deal with and the subzero temperatures that cause them to freeze their asses off, it sucks to be a gas station attendant right now. Just ask the guy in the GIF above.

The attendant in the GIF was overseeing a gas station in Walpole, Mass. on Monday at around 11:30 a.m. when an 83-year-old driver pulled up to a pump to get gas. Then, for whatever reason, the elderly man hit the accelerator on his car, lunged forward, turned to avoid hitting an SUV that was in front of him, and ran into both the attendant and a fuel pump. The accident caused a fire to start and knocked the attendant back about 20 feet. It also caused him to suffer several broken bones.

"It definitely could have been a lot worse," a local police officer told the New York Daily News yesterday. "I don't think he expected it at all."

It could have been way worse. The attendant could have been standing closer to the gas pump and ended up in the middle of a fire. But this was still pretty bad. And we hope that the attendant is OK and that he gets a few weeks off after this.
