At the end of a game against the Lakers on Wednesday night, Kidd tried to pull a fast one on the referees. The Nets coach didn't have any timeouts left, so he instructed Nets guard Tyshawn Taylor to bump into him and knock a cup of soda that he had in his hand onto the floor. That forced the officials to call a timeout so that they could have the floor mopped up—and it gave one of Kidd's assistant coaches the chance to draw up a play for Paul Pierce. Unfortunately, though, the play didn't work and the NBA fined Kidd $50,000 the following day for pulling the stunt. That'll be the last time he tries that.
