Earlier this year, Luis Suárez came out and publicly said that he did not want to be a member of the Liverpool club anymore. So much for that!
Earlier today, Suárez signed a huge new deal with Liverpool that will pay him £200,000 (or roughly $327,000) per week through 2018. That represents a pretty significant pay increase, considering that his old contract paid him "just" £120,000 (or roughly $196,000) per week and was set to expire in 2016. Suárez and Liverpool officially announced the deal through a tweet that was sent out this morning:
Suárez also spoke about the deal a short time later.
"I am delighted to have agreed to a new deal with Liverpool," he said, "and have my future secured for the long term. We have some great players and the team is growing and improving all the time. I believe I can achieve the ambitions of winning trophies and playing at the very highest level with Liverpool. My aim is to help get us there as quickly as possible."
The 26-year-old Suárez will be 31 when his deal expires. Do you think Liverpool overpaid for his services?
