Good news, guys: we're still filling the air with pollution, but in 2012 we did it less than we ever have. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released its annual report for fuel economy and emissions and found that 2012 has been our most eco-friendly year yet.

The average fuel economy was 23.6 mpg, while the average CO2 emissions was 376 grams per mile. Both are the lowest recorded figures since these measurements began in 1975. We still have a long way to go in curbing our pollution problem, but this is progress.
