Sadly, we don't know if we're ever going to see Derek Jeter play baseball at a high level again. We would love to, simply because it's been kind of sad to see him playing hurt so often over the course of the last year or so. But it appears as though Father Time has finally caught up with The Captain. He was on the disabled list on four separate occasions during the 2013 MLB season and hit just .190 when he played for the team.
But the Yankees aren't giving up on him just yet. Although he already had a player option in his contract that called for him to make $9.5 million next season, they just signed Jeter to a new one-year deal worth $12 million (it's worth noting that, although the Yankees are paying Jeter more, doing this will actually help them save money next season). It will make him the longest-tenured Yankee ever, assuming he suits up for the team in 2014. And you know what? Even if he doesn't get into the lineup much for the Bronx Bombers next season, he's still worth every penny of that $12 million to Yankees fans. Here's to hoping that he does make it back, though.
