When one thinks about the World Rally Championship, tiny AWD hatchbacks come to mind. If one thinks of WRC R3, the WRC's feeder series, one thinks about tiny front-driven hatchbacks. This is because WRC3 is 2WD only, and front-driven cars are much easier to handle on dirt.
Rear driven cars, however, tend to look cooler, and spend more time sideways, thus being more fun to watch. That even seems to be a significant portion of why Toyota has decided to use this car, judging by what the company released to the WRC: "The GT86 CS-R3 promises to be a thrilling car on the rally stages; with rear-wheel drive we can expect some dramatic action which is sure to be entertaining for drivers and fans alike."
The car will be called the TMG GT-86 CS-R3, and will be available to customers for the 2015 season.
