Some sad news has hit the NFL today. Veteran linebacker Thomas Howard was killed in a 100 m.p.h. car crash in Oakland. The 30-year-old was in the NFL for eight years and most recently played with the Atlanta Falcons.

Howard was headed northbound on the I-880 at around 1 a.m. when he lost control of his BMW and slammed into the back of his truck. His vehicle then moved into oncoming traffic and hit two other cars, killing one driver.

The Texas native was drafted out of UTEP in 2006 by the Raiders and played with the Bengals for a short period before joining the Falcons this season. He was cut from Atlanta last week.

Thought and prayers go out to his family and friends.
