David Beckham wants to put an MLS team in Miami. And LeBron James might be the guy to help him do it.
For the last couple of months now, Becks has been working hard to bring an MLS franchise to South Beach. But there has been some speculation about whether or not an MLS team would do well in the 305. So now, Beckham has reportedly reached out to James to talk about the possibility of partnering up in order to make it happen. And James has been receptive to the idea and is thinking about doing a deal with Beckham to bring MLS to Miami.
"The research is still being made out, but I think it can be huge," says James, who already owns a piece of the Premier League's Liverpool FC. "But you never know. I think this is a great town for soccer. There are a lot of soccer players here. There is a lot of great youth soccer here."
James doesn't just want to get involved in order to expand his growing portfolio, either. He genuinely seems to enjoy the sport of soccer and respects what MLS is trying to do by expanding into new markets.
"I have grown a great interest in watching the game and learning the guys," he says. "It's a pretty intense sport, and my kids love it as well. But I've grown to the point where I know exactly what's going on when I'm watching the game."
