Can you imagine a referee saying this out loud?

If the Fritz Pollard Alliance had their way, they would have referees throw a yellow flag on players they catch using the N-word towards their opponents. Earlier today, the group sent a letter requesting that the NFL add a rule where teams would receive a 15-yard penalty or even an ejection for "abusive language."

“[W]e believe that the League can address this concern by instructing Game Day officials to step up enforcement of Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1(b) of the League’s Playing Rules, which prohibits the use of ‘abusive, threatening, or insulting language or gestures to opponents, officials, teammates, or representatives of the League,’” attorney Cyrus Mehri (pictured) wrote in the letter to Pash.  “Directing the ‘N’ word towards others in a place of work is abusive, threatening, and insulting.    We believe the League should authorize Game Day officials to use graduated discipline with warnings, 15 yard penalties and ejections as appropriate.”

While you gotta commend the effort by the Fritz Pollard Alliance, you simply can't enforce such a rule when there are players in the league that simply use the word in such a casual manner, even when there's no malicious intent behind it. Do you agree or disagree with the group's proposal. Sound off in the comment section.
