No surprise here.

Back in late October, Allen Iverson made his retirement from the NBA official—about three years after playing his last game in the league—and did so by holding a press conference in Philadelphia. And earlier today, the Philadelphia 76ers announced that they are planning on retiring Iverson's jersey number 3 later this season. AI will join Julius Erving, Maurice Cheeks, Wilt Chamberlain, Hal Greer, Bobby Jones, Billy Cunningham, and Charles Barkley in the rafters at the Wells Fargo Center in Philly when the Sixers retire his No. 3 in March.

"Allen Iverson is, without question, one of the most iconic players to ever wear the Sixers uniform," Sixers CEO Scott O'Neil said in a statement that was released today. "Allen left everything out on the court and no one could ever question his heart."

As a result of that, his jersey will hang over the Sixers' court forever. As it should.
