Over the course of the last month or so, there has been a ton of dialogue concerning the team name of the Washington Redskins. There are a whole bunch of people out there who want the 'Skins to change their name to something a little bit less offensive. And there are also a whole bunch of people out there who don't want to see the team name changed because, you know, TRADITION (which evidently supersedes the feelings of those who might be offended by the name). And now, it sounds like the Redskins might finally be coming around to the idea of changing their name…er, maybe.
It's still a pretty long shot, considering the fact that Redskins owner Daniel Snyder (pictured above) has no heart been adamant about keeping the Redskins name intact. But earlier today, TMZ found out that one of Snyder's neighbors, a patent investor named Aris Mardirossian, recently purchased the rights to the name Washington Bravehearts. On the trademark application for the name, Mardirossian reportedly explained that he plans on using the Bravehearts name for the purpose of "entertainment in the nature of football games." Mardirossian also created a company called Washington Brave Hearts, LLCand bought the rights to WashingtonBravehearts.com. So it seems pretty clear that he's planning on doing something with the Bravehearts name.
Is that something going to result in the Redskins changing their name? Eh, that remains to be seen. Mardirossian hung up on TMZ when they called him, and the Redskins are now claiming that Snyder doesn't even know Mardirossian. But it'll be interesting to see if Bravehearts ends up being the new Redskins name. If for no other reason, we'd love to see this become the Bravehearts new team song…
