Welcome to the world of coaching in the NHL, Patrick Roy!
Last night, the former NHL star coached the first game of his NHL coaching career when he led his Colorado Avalanche up against the Anaheim Ducks. And late in the third period, with the Avalanche leading the Ducks 6-1, he sent a couple of his enforcers Cody McLeod and Patrick Bordeleau into the game to take one final face-off before leaving the ice. That didn't sit real well with the Ducks, though, who responded to it by getting into it with the Avalanche as the final seconds ticked off the clock. It didn't sit real well with Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau, either, who responded to it by yelling at Roy. And rather than take a little verbal abuse from Boudreau, Roy responded to him by losing his mind for a few seconds, dropping some F-bombs in Boudreau's direction, and then attempting to knock down the partition that was standing between the Avalanche's bench and the Ducks' bench.
Fortunately, Roy didn't knock it down all the way and cooler heads eventually prevailed. Boudreau later explained that he wasn't happy with Roy yelling at his players on the ice, while Roy wasn't happy with a hit that was made on one of his players. But yo, IT'S ONLY THE FIRST GAME OF THE NHL SEASON! If this is what Roy is bringing to the table as a head coach in the NHL, Avalanche games are about to become must-see TV.
