New York Mets All-Star pitcher Matt Harvey underwent Tommy John reconstructive surgery Tuesday on his pitching elbow. Well-known Dr. James Andrews performed the procedure on Harvey. The Mets starting right-hander will miss the entire 2014 season but should be back by Opening Day of the 2015 MLB season.
The 24-year-old had a spectacular season before the injury, posting a 9-5 record with a 2.39 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 9.9 K/9 over his first 237 2/3 major league innings (36 starts). Harvey will be arbitration-eligible for the first time heading into the 2015 campaign.
We wish Matt a speedy recovery because the Mets need his help if they want to improve and take a new step in the right direction.
