Virtually everybody loves loyal and playful little furry animals, and this means that virtually everybody wants to take said furry animals with them when they go places. The sad truth is that car accidents do happen though, and unsecured pets will almost certainly be seriously injured or worse. Because of this, people buy products that promise to keep their pets safe in the car, but unlike car seats for children, there are no guidelines or legislation covering these restraints, and there has been very little testing of them until now.
Subaru, which has been working very hard to portray itself as the most pet-friendly automaker, recently did safety testing of a range of pet "safety" harnesses and found that using certain harnesses can actually be worse than using none at all. Specially designed dog crash test dummies were made at 25 lbs, 45 lbs, and 75 lbs for the test.
