In news that should surprise nobody who was paying much attention, the 90-year-old driver who crashed her Toyota into 66-year-old Noriko Uno's car, killing her, was ruled to be at fault, despite the Uno family's claims of "unintended acceleration." This accident set off a chain of unintended accelerations claims against Toyota, which has maintained that the accidents were caused by driver error.
The Jury found no mechanical fault with the Toyota, and ruled that since the NHTSA has also failed to find an electronic problem with the cars that could lead to unintended acceleration, the driver must have simply depressed the wrong pedal.
