Before we get into the news about some comments that Bryon Russell made recently, we have a question. A serious question. Why in the world are so many people interested in playing against Michael Jordan 1-on-1 right now (see here, here, and here)? We get that MJ is the G.O.A.T. and everything and that beating him would be the ultimate accomplishment for any basketball player. But you guys do realize that he's 50, right? So even if you somehow manage to beat him, he has an extremely easy excuse to fall back on. So it really doesn't make sense to call him out at this point in his life, because you won't be getting MJ in his prime.
Anyway, regardless of how we feel about it, Bryon Russell did an interview with TMZ Sports recently and revealed that he has been trying to get Jordan to play him 1-on-1 for a few years now. Apparently, Russell saw Jordan's Hall of Fame speech back in 2009—the one where Jordan said that he would come at Russell if he ever saw him in a pair of basketball shorts again—and he was a little bit insulted by it. So he claims that he called Jordan up a short time later and challenged him to a game of 1-on-1. But Jordan refused to play him and didn't offer up a reason why.
Russell says that his 1-on-1 challenge still stands. But again, at this point, what does Jordan have to gain by playing anyone 1-on-1? And really, what does Russell have to gain from it? Even if he does beat Jordan, that's not going to erase the 1998NBA Finals from our memory. Sorry.
