It is quite possible Yusmeiro Petit didn't sleep at all last night. Why's that? Because Petit came thisclose to throwing the 24th perfect game in MLB history. On a 3-2 count with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, the 28-year-old gave up a looping liner to pinch-hitter Eric Chavez. Peep the hit below.
Petit probably thought about all the other pitches he could've or should've thrown. Why couldn't the ball stay up just a little more, so his teammate Hunter Pence could make a diving catch. Did the cops escorting his wife closer to the field with two outs jinx his chances of making history? See a picture of that in the thumbs. So many questions, so few answers.
Guess saying "you'll get 'em next time" won't work here, right?
