Should the NFL just give the Broncos the Lombardi Trophy now and save everyone some time?
Even though their Monday Night Football game last night was against the Raiders, Denver was unstoppable once again in a 37-21 blowout. The Broncos D looked solid, their running game was on point, and, of course, Peyton Manning was cool, calm, and collected in the pocket, completing 32 of 37 passes for 374 yards and three touchdowns. He also set a new NFL record in the process by throwing his 12th touchdown through the first three games of the 2013-14 NFL season. The previous record was held by Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who threw 11 touchdowns through the first three games back in 2011.
Is it one of the most important records Manning has ever broken? Eh, no. But it does prove that he's firing on all cylinders right now and is going to be tough to stop this season. And if he's tough to stop, that means that the Broncos as a whole will be tough to stop. So handing them the Lombardi Trophy at the end of September might not be such a far-fetched idea.
