Today’s NBA is one of the most talent-laden periods in the history of the league. Everywhere you look, new stars like Kevin Durant and Derrick Rose have emerged to join stalwarts like Kobe Bryant and Dirk Nowitzki among the league’s elite. The result has been some of the best play and most competitive seasons seen since the league’s “Golden Era” in the 1980s and 1990s, where a similar crush of stars came onto the scene and helped the game evolve into the fast-paced, entertaining brand played universally today.

It took players to make that shift happen, and many of today’s players grew up watching and modeling themselves after old stars like George Gervin, Larry Bird, and Michael Jordan. Sometimes, too, we see the off court behavior from former players replicated today (what’s that about history repeating itself?).
